Robbery suspect ID’ed after being shot by police

Police have identified a robbery suspect who was shot by officers after he allegedly pulled a sawed-off shotgun on them Nov. 30.

Nicholas Proscia, 24, of Magnolia, Del., was critically wounded on Nov. 30 near Levick and Vandike streets, police said Tuesday.

Last week, police said officers had spotted a man at 10:37 p.m. who matched the description of a robber wanted for a Ditman Street stickup that had occurred about a half-hour earlier. That man, this week identified as Proscia, tried to elude police, but then turned toward them with a sawed-off shotgun, police said.

Officers fired on Proscia several times and wounded him.

Police said Proscia had held up two men on the 6300 block of Ditman at 10:13 p.m. and got $500 from him. The men called 9–1–1, and police broadcast a description of the robber. Police said the victims identified Proscia after officers shot him.

Proscia is facing assault, weapons and theft charges. ••
